Man jailed for 'abhorrent and repugnant' messages after police find incriminating device under his bed

A far-right extremist and ex-soldier has been jailed on his birthday after glorifying the killer of MP Jo Cox. Kieran Turner described Thomas Mair as a 'hero' online, as well as sharing posts which expressed 'extreme racism' and hatred towards black people, Jews and Muslims.

Turner turned 37 on the day he was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison after admitting encouraging terrorism, disseminating terrorist publications and stirring up racial hatred. Prosecutors told how Turner's posts on the Gab social media site attracted the attention of police. On his profile, Turner, who had 773 followers, described himself as a 'British Army veteran' and an 'English nationalist'.

Turner also shared a link to a video taken by the murderer who killed 51 innocent people in Christchurch, New Zealand, at two mosques in 2019, on the day of the killings. A comment which Turner left on the video read: "‘Cheers. Just the thing to put a smile on my face before heading to work this
