Man jailed for 27 YEARS for brutal attack inside caravan

A thug who forced his way into a caravan with an axe and knife - threatening to bite a man's ear off and slashing him - has been jailed.

Joshua O'Dea, 24, from Moston, has been sentenced to 27 years following the horror attack in January. He threaten to bite the victim's ear off and cut his arm with a blade. Another defendant was found not guilty following a trial.

O'Dea was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on Friday (August 30). It follows the shocking incident on January 14. Emergency services were called to a home on Baguely Crescent in Middleton, following reports a man had been stabbed.

The 24-year-old victim of the attack had been staying with his friend in a caravan. They were woken by loud banging and shouting at the door.

O'Dea forced his way in, wielding an axe and a knife. Police said he believed the victim owed him money. O'Dea beat his victim, threatening to bite his ear off if he didn't pay and cut his arm with his knife.

The victim managed to escape and he was later found in the street with serious injuries. O'Dea, of Moorsholme Avenue, was sentenced to 27 years in with an additional five years on extended license for attempted murder.

Another man - Cain Hopkins, 30, of Shelley Street, Manchester - was found not guilty following a trial.

"This was a terrifying and horrific assault which could have cost the victim his life," DC Gemma Chauhan said. "The sentence reflects the brutality of O'Dea's actions and demonstrates the zero-tolerance approach we take to violence and knife crime in Greater Manchester.
