Man found bleeding to death by friend in car before alleged killer 'went on the run'
A father was murdered after being stabbed in the thigh by a teenager after they had been caught up in an argument between a former couple, a court has heard. Following the killing it is alleged an attempt was made to cover it up with the disposal of weapons while two men allegedly went “on the run”.
Colin Richards, 48, bled to death within minutes of being stabbed in Cardiff on April 7 last year. He suffered damage to the femoral artery and vein – an injury which proved to be fatal. Corey Gauci, 19, denies the murder of Mr Richards after he and James O’Driscoll, 27, are alleged to have attended the home of Christian Morgan, 36, in Heol y Berllan, Caerau.
A trial at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday heard Morgan had previously been in a relationship with O’Driscoll’s sister Noreen O’Driscoll, 29, but she had become jealous after he began seeing another woman. Prosecutor David Elias KC said Noreen O’Driscoll had sent threatening and insulting messages to Morgan and had threatened to damage his car. When she made a threat to go to Morgan’s new girlfriend’s home he responded: “You violate anything around me, it’s on.”
It was alleged a plan was made for James O’Driscoll to attack Morgan with the assistance of Gauci. The O’Driscolls’ mother Soraya Somersall, 44, drove her son and Gauci to Heol y Berllan in a Nissan Qashqai while Somersall’s partner Rebecca Ross, 44, travelled with Noreen O’Driscoll to the scene in a Ford Focus. Ross was said to have previously sent a voice note to Somersall which said: “She’s asking her brothers to do.. like.. to do.. get the boys to do.. you know what I’m on about don’t wanna say too much. But she just wants it doing like.
