Man fighting for his life after being knocked down by 'unknown vehicle'

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being knocked down by an 'unknown vehicle' in Stockport.

The pedestrian was struck on the northbound side of the A6 Buxton Road at around 3.20am this morning (Saturday). He was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital.

Greater Manchester Police said his injuries are life-threatening. The force added that the vehicle involved was 'unknown'.

An investigation is now underway, with a stretch of the A6 near the junction with Corbar Road still taped off this morning. Collision investigators remain on the scene.

Detectives are urging any witnesses of the crash to come forward. They particularly want to speak to any taxi drivers who might have been in the area at the time.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "A pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries after being in collision with a car in Stockport. The 46-year-old man was struck by an unknown vehicle on the northbound A6 in Great Moor, near the junction with Corbar Road, at around 3:20am today (18 February 2023).

"He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital with multiple injuries. The incident is being investigated by specialist officers - anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting log 484-18/02/2023.

"Officers are particularly interested in speaking to anyone in the area at the time of the collision or anyone, particularly taxi drivers, who may have dashcam footage.
