Manchester City’s hopes of continuing their dominance at the top of English football will be boosted by the arrival of striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer. Manchester City
City agreed a £51.2m deal almost a fortnight ago to sign Haaland from Dortmund, with the Norwegian, regarded as one the most talented strikers in world football, signing a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.
A report from The Times claims that Pep Guardiola’s side pinpointed Haaland as their number one target earlier this year ahead of Tottenham striker and Harry Kane. That is despite City being heavily linked with the England captain and a 2021 summer saga in which he came close to moving to Manchester
The report adds that Haaland opted to move to the Sky Blues following a conversation with Pep Guardiola over his vision for the player in his team next season, as well as how his playing style will pair up with City’s. The phone call between the duo is said to have gone well, with Haaland asking a number of questions which the Spaniard was able to answer while telling him what he could expect in his team.
Meanwhile, representatives of Kane’s contacted City back in February, they made it clear how their sole focus was on a move for Haaland, the son of former City defender Alf-Inge.
