Man City told why they could hold the edge over Liverpool FC in Premier League title race

Former Manchester City goalkeeper David James believes Liverpool could struggle to get going again in their quest to beat City to the Premier League title.

The two sides, who are each in Champions League action on Wednesday evening, played out an enthralling 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon, leaving City at the top of the table by a point. Despite being in front twice, the Blues were pegged back on each occasion by Liverpool, highlighting their never-say-die attitude, as they look to push City all the way.

Each side has seven games left to play and with just one point currently separating them in the standings it means that the smallest of errors could prove to be defining. City held a huge lead at the top in mid-January, but Liverpool have reeled them in over the last eight weeks or so, setting up a grandstand finish to the campaign.

Whilst City remain the favourites to retain their crown because of their one-point advantage, Jurgen Klopp's side cannot be discounted anytime soon. But for former City man James, who also enjoyed a seven-year spell at Anfield, Liverpool's recent habit of dropping points in consecutive games could prove to be their downfall, handing City the edge.

"With Liverpool, the one thing that I was concerned about is that when they drop points in the Premier League this season, they regularly drop points in the following game," James told Sky Sports. "Now, if that was to happen then the gap would open.

"Of course that doesn't mean it's going to happen, it's just an interesting observation."
