Man City told why Erling Haaland might not suit their style of play following £51m transfer

Former Liverpool midfielder John Barnes believes Manchester City could disrupt their style of play to accommodate Erling Haaland in their plans next season.

City, on Tuesday, confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign the Norwegian international, subject to personal terms being agreed. It is understood that he will join the club for £51million.

The Blues were desperate to add a striker to their ranks last summer and had pinpointed Tottenham Hotspur and England star Harry Kane as their top target. However, City were unable to meet Spurs' demands, meaning their pursuit for a striker was placed on hold.

However, they have now sourced one of the most exciting players on the planet in Haaland, who will bring a wealth of quality and goals to their forward line. He has been terrific for Dortmund since joining them in January 2020, scoring 85 goals in just 88 appearances.

But despite almost guaranteeing City goals, former England midfield ace Barnes has raised concerns about City's decision to sign him, suggesting that he might not fit Pep Guardiola's system and way of playing. He has also admitted that he didn't think they necessarily needed to sign a striker, pointing to the volume of goals that come from all over the team.

"Erling Haaland is a fantastic football player," Barnes told BonusCodeBets. "What could happen is that, City could change the way they play [to include him].

"If you look at them, they don't necessarily need a centre forward to score 40+ goals. They play in a way that creates [goals and opportunities] for everybody.
