Man City told the trophy they need to call it a successful season

Manchester City's season can be defined as a success if they win one of the three competitions they are fighting for, according to Joleon Lescott.

Pep Guardiola and his players face a critical fortnight in their bid for silverware, facing Atletico in the Champions League quarter-final and Liverpool in the Premier League and FA Cup. By next weekend, the Blues will know their chances of lifting all three trophies they are gunning for.

City currently lead the Premier League by a point and, if they are still top after playing Liverpool next Sunday, they can feel even more confident with just seven games to go. And while the Champions League is more of a lottery, the players feel like they are more ready than they have ever been.

However, everyone at the Etihad is aware that their much of their good work to get to this point so far will quickly be forgotten if they fail to land a trophy. The Premier League and Champions League are the big two, with City as keen to extend their domestic dominance as they are to break their duck in Europe.

Lescott, though, feels that any trophy should be celebrated even if the Blues end up with just the FA Cup to their name at the end of the season. Whatever negativity there may be around the failure to land the bigger prizes, the former City and Everton defender does not think that perspective should be lost — especially given the drought that is ongoing at Old Trafford.
