Man City tipped to make perfect start to season after 2022/23 Premier League fixtures released

Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills expects the Blues to win their first six games of the new season after the 2022/23 Premier League fixtures were announced.

Fixtures for the upcoming campaign were released on Thursday, with City kicking off their new season with a tricky trip to West Ham. Pep Guardiola’s side made the same trip in the penultimate game of the 2021/22 campaign, and had to come from 2-0 down to rescue a point at the London Stadium.

City though will be relatively pleased with the start handed to them for the new season. Following their clash with the Hammers, they play their first home game of the season against Bournemouth before heading to Newcastle the week after.

They close out August at home to Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, before a replay of that dramatic final day encounter as they begin September with a trip to Aston Villa. Despite some tricky away games being in the mix, Mills believes City can make the perfect start to their title defence.

“It is a good start especially after a lot of their players have been away during the international window, they are favourable,” Mills told Sky Sports. “West Ham away is always difficult. After that, you’ll look at that and think there’s a lot of wins in there.

“If they don’t pick up wins in their first six, I think most people will be surprised. We’ve seen it before, if you get off to a good start, you can relax a little but if you get off to a bad start, you’re chasing it.

“Look at Brentford last season, they were fantastic, really good start, good results and that settles everyone down doesn’t matter whether you’re at the top end or bottom end.
