Man City take action against two minors over 'vile' Bobby Charlton chants

Manchester City have suspended two minors from attending matches over "vile" chants about Manchester United great Bobby Charlton and have shared their details with the police.

Footage emerged on social media of the individuals chanting about Charlton at half-time of City's Premier League match against Brighton last weekend, soon after his death at the age of 86 had been publicly confirmed.

"Manchester City can confirm that two minors have been identified in connection with the vile chanting heard at the Etihad Stadium during half-time of last weekend’s fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion," a statement from City read.

"The individuals in question have subsequently been suspended from attending all home or away fixtures and their details have been shared with Greater Manchester Police who are investigating the matter.

"Following the conclusion of Greater Manchester Police’s ongoing investigation, the individuals will be subject to the club’s official sanctions and bans process."

The two clubs are due to compete in the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford on Sunday, and City manager Pep Guardiola paid his own personal tribute to Charlton last weekend.

"I am sorry to the Manchester United family, to his family and England," the Spaniard said.

"These types of players and personalities represent English football like no-one else can do it. Condolences from us for his family especially.

"Next week when we go there (to Old Trafford for a league game), we will be present to make a tribute.

"I love this country for many things but one of the things is how they take care of the legends.

"They are part of the club and they travel. Sir Bobby Charlton represented United and English football unlike anyone else."
