Man City star 'to receive texts from club hierarchy' over 'stupid' Liverpool comments

Alan Pardew has warned Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega that club executives will not be impressed with his disparaging comments about Liverpool.

The City goalkeeper was in action during Sunday's (December 1) battle at Anfield where Arne Slot's team secured a convincing 2-0 victory against the title holders. Ortega, who was selected over Ederson for the match, made several crucial saves following Cody Gakpo's opener, but he also gave away a late penalty by bringing down Luis Diaz in the box.

Mohamed Salah converted the resulting spot-kick to cement a 2-0 triumph which opened up an 11-point gap between Slot's team and the reigning Premier League champions. And after the match, Ortega caused controversy when he took a swipe at Liverpool as a city.

In the final exchanges, Guardiola had an interaction of his own with the Liverpool supporters, who goaded him with chants of 'you're getting sacked in the morning'. The Catalan responded by holding up six fingers, to symbolise the number of Premier League titles he has won.

After the match, Ortega was asked about Guardiola's tongue-in-cheek response to the Liverpool faithful. He said: "Someone told me before that this area [Liverpool] is probably not the best part in the UK. I think the manager reacted really well."

Speaking on talkSPORTs The Final Word, former West Ham and Newcastle manager Pardew labelled Ortega's remarks as "stupid" and suggested the goalkeeper will end up regretting his words.
