Man City star Kevin De Bruyne reacts to equalling Steven Gerrard assist landmark

Kevin De Bruyne is happy to still be helping his team after equalling Steven Gerrard's Premier League assist record at the weekend.

Manchester City kept their undefeated start to the season intact on Saturday as they finished up the first section of the season before the international break with a dominant 3-0 win over Wolves. De Bruyne was instrumental in the victory as he picked up another two assists.

He teed up Jack Grealish for the opener with just 55 seconds on the clock and then helped finish the scoring after laying off Phil Foden to flick home after some great interplay with Erling Haaland. The Norwegian had earlier bagged the second from outside of the box.

That means De Bruyne now has 92 assists in his 217 appearances in the Premier League — the same number that Liverpool legend Gerrard managed in more than twice as many games. It pus the Belgian seventh on the all-time list, with Manchester United's Ryan Giggs top with 162.

“It is good to help my team," De Bruyne said afterwards.

“I tried to create as many chances as possible for my team and if they score I will get an assist. It works together and it is good I can do that. I have been doing the same thing since I came here. It is still going on."

Both of De Bruyne's assists came from the Belgian playing in an advanced role on the right flank, but he isn't looking too much into the new role as his position changes often in Pep Guardiola's system. “It is game by game, everything changes every time," he added.

“There has been years of games where I have played more defensively and then more attacking and a No.9. It depends whatever he has got in his mind."
