Man City spot opportunity to sign in-demand Argentine teammate of Julian Alvarez

Manchester City could turn their forthcoming signing of Julian Alvarez into a double deal after also reportedly making his River Plate teammate Enzo Fernandez a target.

A deal for Manchester City to sign Alvarez was made official on January 31st. As part of the agreement, the promising attacker is remaining with River Plate on loan.

While monitoring his development, the Premier League champions may also have come across someone else of interest.

According to journalist Sergio Gonzalez, River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez is now also under consideration by Manchester City.

In fact, there has been an approach to his entourage to lay the groundworks for a potential transfer. There is yet to be a formal offer, though.

Fernandez is a year younger than Alvarez. The 21-year-old has been amassing first-team experience in Argentina, though.

To date, he has played 34 times for the River Plate first team. In the process, he has provided four goals and five assists. That has included two goals and two assists from nine appearances in the current campaign.

River Plate have him under contract until the end of 2025. Should Manchester City firm up their interest, though, the two clubs may be doing business again before that date.

Fernandez has also been linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Inter and AC Milan in recent days. It seems that Europe’s elite are all keeping tabs on his progress.

Whether the pre-existing relationship between Man City and River Plate after the Alvarez deal could give the Premier League club an advantage is unclear at this moment in time.
