Man City's Erling Haaland reminds Paul Scholes of former Manchester United player
Paul Scholes has said that Manchester City's Erling Haaland reminds him of a former Manchester United player following the Norwegian striker's Premier League debut.
There was a lot of expectation ahead of the 22-year-old's first league game and he did not disappoint. Haaland got his City career off to the perfect start as he scored two goals either side of half-time during his side's 2-0 win at West Ham.
He was awarded man of the match for his performance and may well have caused several Bournemouth defenders to have a few sleepless nights ahead of their next match on Saturday. With their new striker playing ahead of Kevin de Bruyne and the rest of Guardiola's star-studded side, City have somehow become an even more terrifying opponent.
Speaking on the Premier League Matchday Live show, former Manchester United midfielder Scholes was hugely impressed by the 22-year-old, and even made a comparison to another top goal-scorer.
"He's such a young player, so confident. He reminds me so much of Ruud van Nistelrooy, such a ruthless finisher," Scholes said.
"When he gets through, you feel he's going to score and you feel he's not going to give the goalkeeper a chance. Even looking at his penalty, he was so certain about it, just a step up and bang into that bottom corner.
"It was a great debut, I thought it might take a bit of time but I was slightly wrong again, but this lad's got real quality, his goal-scoring, his movement. Imagine playing behind him!"
