Man City's Champions League pain fuelling Treble desire

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines for Sunday, June 4.

Man City squad willing to embrace pain of 2021 to fuel Champions League bid

Manchester City are better equipped to approach the Champions League final after losing the showpiece event in 2021.

That is the message from midfielder Rodri, who insists that City are more mature than they were two years ago, as they head to Istanbul to take on Inter Milan with a first-ever Champions League title on offer.

City reached the final in Porto in 2021, but were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea and crashed out in the semi-finals last year at Real Madrid. Having knocked Real out at the same stage this season, City have since added the Premier League and FA Cup titles, meaning they are on for a historic treble if they can get past Inter.

Nathan Ake outlines dressing room mentality

Nathan Ake believes hard work and honesty among the Manchester City squad have put them 90 minutes from the treble, as he pledged that his teammates will do everything to lift the Champions League.

Ake has returned from injury in time for the final games of the season, starting on the bench in the FA Cup final win over Manchester United as Manu Akanji played on the left of the defence. Having played a key role in City's Premier League title win, and their march to the Champions League final next week, Ake said that the collective understanding within the squad is what has put them so close to making history.

"If you're so close you're going to do everything to do it. It's still one big final to go and we have to still focus on it," the Dutchman said after the FA Cup final.
