Man City rubbish Real Madrid reports around Erling Haaland contract

Manchester City have rubbished the idea that Real Madrid will get a free run to sign Erling Haaland in two years.

A bizarre theory has been circulating after a former Real defender suggested he knew about the existence of a release clause in Haaland's contract at City that allows the Spanish club to pay a specific number that guarantees his signing without having to negotiate with the Blues or fight with any other clubs for his signature. The claim has fed into Real hopes that they can land Haaland after missing out on both him and Kylian Mbappe in the summer.

It is understood that there is some kind of clause in the Norwegian's contract, and his dad Alfie spoke in a recent documentary about the player's aim not to spend more than three or four years anywhere so that he can test himself in every league. However, City sources have shot down the idea that there is anything specific included for Real Madrid.

As previously reported, City were delighted to beat Real to the signature of Haaland recently, with Txiki Begiristain leading an eight-month mission to convince the boyhood Blue that the Etihad was the best destination for him. The club have been relaxed about the noise coming from Madrid and elsewhere ever since predicting an early exit from Manchester for the 22-year-old, focused on keeping the player happy enough to stay as they aim to do with every member of Pep Guardiola's squad.

Haaland has shown exactly why every club wanted to sign him since his move, scoring 17 goals in 10 Premier League and Champions League games for City and setting a slew of new records in each competition in the process.
