Man City prospect opens up on message after successful loan spell

Tommy Doyle says a message he received from Manchester City helped propel him to success while on loan at Sheffield United.

The 21-year-old central midfielder has spent the campaign out on loan in the Championship with the Blades. It proved a successful time in South Yorkshire as Paul Heckingbottom's side secured automatic promotion to the Premier League behind champions Burnley.

In that time at Bramall Lane, Doyle made 38 appearances for the Steel City club in all competitions. He also found the back of the net on four occasions as he became a regular in the engine room for the Blades.

Doyle has returned to the Etihad Stadium and United boss Heckingbottom plans to have talks with Pep Guardiola's side over a potential return to Yorkshire for both Doyle and fellow City loanee James McAtee.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Doyle said: “I would say I’m someone who wants to pull through when the going gets tough. City told me, when it does get tough, be the one who shows you are the one driving through.

"The same as the manager and everyone at United. That’s who I was focused on all the way through, because I’m the type of person who always gives everything for the shirt I’ve got on.”
