Man City player ratings vs Wolves as Nathan Ake and Mateo Kovacic poor

Manchester City missed out on the chance to make it seven wins from seven in the Premier League after they fell to a shock 2-1 defeat to Wolves at Molineux.

With Pep Guardiola serving a touchline ban, City had to make do with the Spaniard in the stands at Molineux, with Juanma Lillo taking over the controls in the technical area. It proved to be a much more difficult afternoon than many had expected.

Ruben Dias' own goal gave Wolves the advantage and City struggled to find a way back into the game in the first half. Julian Alvarez did whip in a superb free-kick to equalise after the break but Hwang Hee-chan punished some slack defending to restore the home side's lead.

Ederson

Couldn't do much with either goal and left badly exposed by the chaos unfolding in front of him. 6

Walker

Played with an aggression in his game and continued that after being carded. Tried to get his team going and his commitment should have got Hwang a red card. 6

Akanji

A real mixed bag. One vital second-half interception to deny the lively Neto a run on goal and a big first-half block to stop Hwang's effort. But sloppy in possession and poor for the second goal. 5

Dias

Made some good contributions going forward but caught out at times defensively, especially for the second goal when he couldn't react quickly enough. 6

Ake

Usually so adept at stopping right-wingers, but Neto did what Salah and Saka have so often struggled to do. Ake had a nightmare afternoon. 4

Kovacic

Sloppy in possession for the first goal and couldn't offer the control that Rodri is so adept at. Better alongside the Spaniard rather than replacing him. 5

Nunes
