Man City player ratings vs Liverpool FC as Manu Akanji good but Julian Alvarez poor

Manchester City clung on for a Premier League draw that leaves them one point behind Liverpool and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola's side started well at Anfield despite their terrible record at the ground and took the lead when John Stones swept in a Kevin De Bruyne corner. However, Nathan Ake and Ederson combined to give a penalty away at the beginning of the second half and the Blues spent much of the rest of the game defending to stay in it.

A point was enough to leave the title race finely poised ahead of City's next league game at home to Arsenal. Here are how the players rated.

Ederson: Dealt a poor hand by Ake for the penalty but still could have done better and forced off with the injury he suffered giving the spot kick away. Good distribution before that. 6

Walker: Stayed on the right side of Michael Oliver's officiating with some important tackles and used his pace well, although not great in the final third. 6

Akanji: Picked ahead of Ruben Dias and played really well, with some superb passes up the field and awareness to always leave a pass on. 7

Stones: Grabbed an important goal and stepped forward alongside Rodri, even if the pair weren't always in agreement. 7

Ake: Given some issues by Bradley and Elliott, and then a hospital pass for Ederson to give away the penalty. Did better against Salah. 6

Rodri: Not as controlled or precise as we are used to seeing as City saw their hold over the game slip away from them. 6

De Bruyne: Spurned a few early chances and, despite the assist, wasn't able to find the right pass on too many
