Man City player ratings vs Borussia Dortmund as Erling Haaland good but Jack Grealish poor

Ederson - Had one catch and one punch to do in the first half and could do little to stop Jude Bellingham's header from close range. 5

John Stones - Though a lot of Dortmund's threat came down his side, he remained composed in an unnatural position, getting forward well — which led to his stunning strike to draw things level. 7

Manuel Akanji - Continues to look dependable at the back and a really smart signing. Got left eating dirt by Marco Reus but otherwise solid. 6

Nathan Ake - Has continued his fine start to the season and a real show of confidence that he was trusted to start in a fresh partnership even with Ruben Dias available. 6

Joao Cancelo - Was unlucky to run one jinking dribble in the box out of play and blazed over from distance in the first 45, had a quiet second half until his beautiful pass set up Haaland to put City in front. 6

Ilkay Gundogan - Was tidy as ever but struggled to get involved in attacks as he has done this season with such little space on offer. Taken off. 5

Rodri - So important in that midfield with how he snuffs out danger before it has the chance to really catch flame. One time when it did, he was on hand to dispossess Emre Can in the box. 6

Kevin De Bruyne - The Belgian was not short on effort and ran himself ragged but had very little joy. 5

Riyad Mahrez - City’s biggest early threat, looked sharp on the ball and the only one to regularly find space. Early in the second half played a nice slide rule pass to play De Bruyne in. A bit surprising he was taken off so early. 6
