Man City 'optimistic' about signing Erling Haaland and more transfer rumours

Manchester City have 'informed' Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland that they will better any offer than what he gets from elsewhere, in their attempts to win the race for his signature.

That is according to a report by Sport, who claim that City are working hard to ensure they add him to their ranks ahead of next season. The €75million release clause in Haaland's contract is set to become active this summer and a whole host of clubs are desperate to sign him.

Haaland, who will turn 22 in July, is one of the most highly-rated players in the world right now and his list of suitors is huge. Clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with his signature in recent months.

However, City — who are likely to add a striker to their squad this summer — are reportedly determined to not let the Norwegian international 'slip through their fingers'. Since joining Dortmund in December 2019 from Red Bull Salzburg, Haaland has gone from strength-to-strength, scoring 80 goals in 79 games.

Meanwhile, City winger Riyad Mahrez is attracting interest from French giants PSG and Chelsea. That is according to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato.

The Algerian winger, who scored twice in the derby on Sunday, is out-of-contract at the Etihad Stadium at the end of next season and he is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal. Talks between City and the left-footed ace are yet to take place and a few clubs have already been touted for a move.
