Man City may need two wildcard selections vs Real Madrid and Liverpool

Manchester City did what they needed to do when they faced Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, but it came at a pretty significant cost.

Pep Guardiola's side survived a second half onslaught from the hosts to secure a goalless draw, a result that was good enough to see them through to the semi-finals — where they will meet 13-times winners Real Madrid. However, City might have to take on Los Blancos will limited options in the full-back department.

Joao Cancelo — who has brilliantly reinvented himself as a left-back this season — picked up a booking in Madrid, meaning he will be suspended for the first leg of the semi-final. The Portuguese international has been a key cog in City's attacking play this season, so his ability to both play wide on the flank and tuck into midfield will be missed.

Kyle Walker may also be missing, depending on the severity of a suspected ankle injury he picked up at the Wanda Metropolitano. Guardiola said after the game that the right-back is unlikely to feature in today's FA Cup semi-final, but it remains to be seen whether he will recover in time for the visit of Real Madrid in 11 days time.

If Walker is not fit enough to feature, then Guardiola will be without his first choice right-back and left-back for the first leg. That's not an ideal situation for any match, never mind the semi-final of the Champions League against a team as dangerous as Real Madrid.

However, thanks to the depth and quality of City's squad, there are a few options that Guardiola can consider.
