Manchester City have already ruined one of Manchester United's transfer dreams this summer and they could do it again by beating their neighbours to Frenkie de Jong.

United never stood a chance but the fact that they missed out on Erling Haaland to their neighbours has to sting. The Norwegian sensation's next move was supposed to be the drama of the transfer window, but City ensured it was cancelled before the pilot even aired. The Blues confirmed that they have agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign the striker this summer, with the approximate total expenditure standing at £86million.

With Bayern Munich still having two great No.9s leading their lines, Barcelona lacking the financial muscle, Liverpool having a stacked attack, Paris Saint-Germain a circus and United not even having Champions League football to offer, there really was no other realistic option for Haaland.
