Man City hearing latest as Premier League rivals 'frustrated' by the process

Manchester City's long-awaited day in court finally came on Monday as the Blues began their hearing into alleged breaches of the Premier League's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

Originally it was believed City were facing 115 charges from the top flight but that has since been increased to 130. The alleged wrongdoing dates back to between 2009 and 2018, a time spell which saw the Blues win four Premier League titles.

City have always pleaded their innocence and claimed they have irrefutable evidence that shall clear them of any wrongdoing. After being charged in February 2023, the club has had to play the waiting game to attempt to clear their name as some outsiders have presumed their guilt.

With the hearing set to last for a couple of months and the outcome not expected until next year, interested parties will need to remain patient. However, according to The Telegraph unnamed Premier League clubs are thought to be frustrated by the 'secrecy' which surrounds the hearing.

City's case will be heard behind closed doors in the capital with their lawyers pitching their arguments to an independent panel of three. It is believed other Premier League clubs have not been given any further information about the charges against City than what are currently in the public domain.

One Premier League club's lawyer urged that justice needs to be 'seen to be done' as they argued against the hearing being held privately. Elsewhere, the Daily Mail reports that City's lawyers are 'smiling' heading into this hearing after seeing Leicester City successfully challenge their charges.
