What Man City court case latest means for Man United as Premier League rivals watch on

It has been over three weeks since the hearing into Manchester City's alleged breaches of Premier League rules started.

City have been charged with breaking financial fair play regulations over a nine-year period, which started in 2009 following the Abu Dhabi United Group takeover and went on until 2018. Initially, it was believed that City had been charged with 115 breaches but now it appears the figure is closer to 130.

It's anticipated that the hearing will last around two months, but the verdict is not expected to be made public until spring 2025 at the earliest. If the Premier League come out on top and win the court case, their punishment could be massive. A points deduction of up to 100 points has been mooted as well as potential expulsion from the top-flight altogether, though that possibility is some way down the line.

Updates have been few and far between since the start of the hearing. While the case continues behind-closed- doors our Manchester Evening News chief business of football writer Dave Powell has analysed the potential outcomes which could appear in 2025 and what City's court hearing actually means.
