Man City have developed a rare trait that could give them Premier League advantage

Despite dropping points for the first time this season in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Newcastle on Sunday, Manchester City's Premier League title defence has gotten off to a pretty encouraging start.

Bucking the trend of recent years, City are yet to lose so far and are already playing good football. Usually Pep Guardiola's side have to catch up with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea after enduring a slow start, but this time only Arsenal have taken more points in their opening three games.

Given their current situation, and the fact that City clinched the title on a dramatic final day of 2021/22, it may surprise you to learn that City have fallen two goals behind in three of their last five league matches.

That in itself is a little worrying, but what tells us more about this team is the way that they have responded; on each of those occasions, City fought back to claim at least a point.

After years of growing weary watching Manchester United pull off improbable comebacks at the eleventh hour, City have mastered the skill themselves. Last season their new-found superpower stopped the Premier League trophy from heading the wrong way down the M62.

Guardiola's side found themselves 0-2 down at West Ham in the penultimate game of the season, but by the end of the game they were a missed penalty away from claiming a 3-2 win. The point meant they had to beat Aston Villa on the final day to guarantee the title, but again they found themselves 0-2 down, this time with just 20 minutes left to play. How they managed to score three times in five minutes to turn the game on its head is anyone's guess.
