Man City handed Bruno Guimaraes update amid 'Newcastle decision' plus more transfer rumours

Newcastle are reportedly advancing contract talks with midfielder Bruno Guimaraes after being unable to previously come to a renewal agreement amid supposed interest from Manchester City.

The Brazilian has become the darling of St James’ Park since his arrival in January 2022 and was an important player in the club securing Champions League football for this season. Naturally, his form has attracted attention from several clubs.

And 90min claim Newcastle are set to re-enter talks over a new deal having turned down enquiries from a number of European big-hitters. The Magpies couldn’t agree terms with Guimaraes towards the end of last year so paused attempts, it adds.

The report says Real Madrid made an approach in January before Chelsea and City were told no in the summer. Pep Guardiola ultimately turned to Wolves and brought in Matheus Nunes for £53m to bolster midfield options. Guimaraes is expected to sign a new deal with his employers that lasts until 2028.

Meanwhile, Fichajes says City may have made an approach for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery if Bernardo Silva had left the club. The Portugal star ultimately signed a renewal despite interest from Barcelona.

Zaire-Emery, 17, has started all of PSG’s matches this season and recently grabbed an assist against Lens. He has been nominated for the Golden Boy award after tallying 31 games last season, in which he scored twice.

The teenager was on the radar of Guardiola, the report says, but he ultimately opted for Nunes to strengthen his squad. If the youngster’s trajectory continues, City will likely be linked with him again next year.
