Man City get green light to unleash Jack Grealish in new role as £59m transfer poses 'challenge'
Omar Marmoush's £59million arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt should give Man City the green light to move Jack Grealish into a more central role.
That is the view of former City midfielder Dietmar Hamann, who feels Pep Guardiola has a challenge on his hands to get the best out of both Marmoush and Erling Haaland together in City's forward line.
Marmoush joined from the Bundesliga side last week after scoring 20 goals for them in all competitions so far this season. The Egypt international was thrown straight into the City line-up in last weekend's 3-1 win over Chelsea and looked sharp on the left-hand side of the front three.
The 25-year-old's inclusion saw Grealish reduced to watching role from the bench and his chances of regular football on the left-hand side look slimmer now, particularly given Savinho's recent good form in the role.
However, Hamann sees it as a positive thing and has urged City to try Grealish in a more central role to unlock more of his talents.
"With Marmoush arriving, that’s another player that Grealish has to compete with and it looks hard for him to be playing enough games for City," Hamann told Slots Wise.
"That said, I would like to see him play in the middle. He hasn’t got out and out pace, and it’s very hard to go past players out wide these days but he is so good with the ball and creating chances in the middle.
"He hasn’t scored enough goals out wide for City and it may be that he has to move on now. I’m sure Grealish is not happy being a part timer and he’s too good for that."
Marmoush complemented fellow forward Hugo Ekitike at Frankfurt and Guardiola will hope he can have a similar impact with Haaland at City. However, Hamann has warned it could be a challenge for both players to get
