Man City forward Morgan Rogers secures permanent Middlesbrough transfer

Manchester City forward Morgan Rogers has completed a permanent transfer to Middlesbrough.

The 20-year-old became Boro's third signing of the day and fifth in total this summer. Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, who is manager at the Riverside, also added Australian duo Tom Glover and Sam Silvera to his squad on Friday.

Middlesbrough had already brought in Ray van den Berg from PEC Zwolle along with Brentford B midfielder Alex Gilbert. For Rogers, it brings his three-and-a-half-year stay at the Etihad Stadium to an end - having signed from West Bromwich Albion in October 2019. He had loan spells with Lincoln City, Bournemouth and Blackpool during his time as a City player.

He has put pen to paper on a four-year contract on Teesside, with Carrick bolstering his front line after the disappointment of losing in the Championship play-off semi-finals last season. Rogers, an England youth international, will look to make his mark in the second tier for good next campaign. In his combined 38 appearances for Bournemouth and Blackpool, Rogers scored two goals.

Rogers' stock rose after his time with Lincoln in 2021, when his six goals and two assists helped the Imps reach the League One play-off final. He has flown out to Portugal to join in with Boro's week-long warm-weather training camp. A first appearance in Middlesbrough colours could come on Saturday against Vitoria Guimaraes, with Carrick's men hoping to be in the promotion race in the 2023/24 Championship season.
