Man City fans set for further travel chaos for Liverpool FA Cup semi-final

Transport for London have confirmed fresh disruption on the London Underground that will affect Manchester City and Liverpool fans travelling to the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday.

City and Liverpool fans are already facing a disrupted journey to London for the semi-final, with no direct trains from the North West due to planned improvement works across the weekend. As a result, fans of both clubs called for the venue of the semi-final to be moved, and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp criticised the decision to keep the fixture at Wembley despite over a year of notice of the rail disruptions.

Now, TfL have confirmed 'urgent safety checks' on trains on the Metropolitan Line of the tube after a fault was discovered with train wheels - impacting fans planning to use that route to get to the Wembley Park station.

In a statement to the BBC, TfL confirmed that the disruption would last for 'weeks' and impact the two semi-finals at Wembley this weekend. A TfL spokesperson said: "We're currently inspecting the whole Metropolitan line fleet and will have more certainty of the impact for the weekend in the coming days.

"We are working with the FA on any potential impact to event day services. Travel advice will be communicated ahead of the matches, but customers should check before they travel and consider alternative lines."

Other services fans could take include train services between Baker Street and Amersham or Chesham every 30 minutes, between Watford and Baker Street every 15 minutes, and between Uxbridge and Aldgate every 15 minutes.

TfL also said tickets would be accepted on London Buses and Chiltern Railways, while Wembley Park
