Man City fan foodbank group hits new milestone after bumper December

MCFC Fans Foodbank Support Group are heading into their fifth year on the back of record collections last month.

Three men's matches in December saw over half a tonne of food donated by generous Blues to the group of City fans who have been helping the local community out since the start of 2020. Already the largest donor to Manchester Central Foodbank, the volunteers have also raised £18,000 with around 80 per cent of that coming from the organised Community Shield boycott at the beginning of this season.

They will be back out in force on Sir Howard Bernstein Way opposite Asda and the Academy Stadium on Sunday before the Huddersfield match - the only expected collection this month in an unusually quiet period for Pep Guardiola and his players. Nick Clarke, one of the founders of the group, is hoping to keep the momentum going after celebrating their fourth birthday.

“Since we started four years ago, it’s been the community spirit and support shown to us by fellow Blues that has given our small group of volunteers the drive to make it this far," he said. "January is particularly tough for foodbanks, and Huddersfield is our only men’s collection this month, so we’d love to see that same support on Sunday – and hopefully make it to the next round of the cup!”

The group are also calling for volunteer drivers who are able to collect food at matchday collections and deliver it to Manchester Central Foodbank. Anyone interested can email jan@manchestercentral.foodbank.org.uk for more information.
