Man City eye Sheffield Wednesday player after West Ham action

Manchester City have joined Brentford and West Ham United on the list of Premier League clubs keen on young Sheffield Wednesday forward Bailey Cadamarteri, according to the Sheffield Star.

It was reported last month that both Brentford and West Ham are interested in the Cadamarteri, who is yet to sign a professional contract at Hillsborough and cannot do so until he turns 17 in May, with the Hammers said to have made enquiries about him.

The teenager has been impressing for the Owls U18s this term and it seems he’s now caught the attention of the Premier League champions.

The Sheffield Star has reported that Man City have been monitoring his development for some time now as they eye potential additions to their youth setup.

But it is understood that unlike West Ham they’re yet to make an enquiry about the 16-year-old.

It has been reported previously that the striker remains happy at Hillsborough and is keen to stay at his boyhood club.

The Verdict

This is bittersweet from a Wednesday perspective.

On the one hand, it highlights just what a fantastic young player they have on their books in Cadamarteri, with Premier League interest continuing to grow in the 16-year-old.

But on the other, the interest is not just a warning that they may have to battle to keep hold of him in the near future but may also convince other top flight clubs to run the rule over the young forward.

Any Premier League move would be a tempting proposition but joining up with Pep Guardiola’s City would be very hard to turn down and it seems they’re set to join the race for him.

The Hillsborough faithful will be hoping to see Cadamarteri pen a professional deal with his boyhood club when his 17th birthday rolls around in May.
