Man City drop double Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne fitness hint after Real Madrid scares

Manchester City's options for the Premier League clash with Luton and next weeks' showdown with Real Madrid appear to have been handed a boost, with Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne both taking part in training on Wednesday.

City arrived at Real Madrid for their Champions League quarter-final first leg intending to field De Bruyne from the start, however a sudden bout of sickness saw him drop to the bench and he never looked ready to enter the game. Pep Guardiola called up Mateo Kovacic instead, moving Bernardo Silva out wide and Phil Foden into the middle, with the pair both getting on the scoresheet in the 3-3 draw.

However, Foden's night ended on a sour note as he was substituted in the closing stages after a heavy challenge, limping off to be replaced by Julian Alvarez. He described the issue after the game as a 'bad dead leg' and said he hoped to recover in time for Saturday's clash with Luton.

Guardiola called Foden's issue a 'knock' and said the 23-year-old had wanted to stay on the pitch, easing concerns, and now City have published images of their recovery session in Madrid on Wednesday with both players among the group.

The image of De Bruyne does not show what kind of session he was undertaking, however the Belgian is smiling and wearing the same City training wear as his teammates, suggesting he took part in the session like everyone else after his illness the night before.
