Man City discover FA Cup semi-final opponents after Burnley victory

Manchester City will face Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium.

The Blues' tie at the national stadium will take place on either Saturday, April 22 or Sunday, April 23. This means that the Premier League fixture away at Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday will be rearranged to make room for the last four tie.

Pep Guardiola's men progressed to this stage of the competition thanks to a comfortable 6-0 victory against Burnley at the Etihad Stadium. The quarter-final tie marked City legend Vincent Kompany's first trip back to the Blues as a manager since his retirement but it was by no means a happy return.

An Erling Haaland hat-trick got City up and running against the Championship leaders. Julian Alvarez then went on to grab a brace either side of a Cole Palmer strike to secure their passage to Wembley.

City's participation in the last four of the competition will take place just days after their away trip to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final second leg. As things stand, City could realistically secure a historic treble but their task in Europe, as well as in the Premier League, will be a huge test for the squad.

On Friday, the Blues discovered that they will need to beat the Bundesliga leaders and then either Real Madrid or Chelsea to reach the Champions League final in Istanbul. Meanwhile in the league, City sit second behind leaders Arsenal who have enjoyed a brilliant season so far.
