Man City consider surgery to solve Cole Palmer injury frustration

Pep Guardiola said that Manchester City are considering surgery for Cole Palmer as he has been unable to train regularly with the team for three months.

Palmer has been one of the breakthrough stars from the academy in the last two years and scored his first Champions League goal this season in the 5-1 win over Club Brugge. However, the 19-year-old has not featured since the FA Cup win at January, where he picked up a goal and an assist in a man-of-the-match winning performance.

City's medical staff are continuing to assess Palmer, but a lack of progress has made them consider surgery as an option. As Guardiola noted, the Blues have had to make do without the promising youngster for a big chunk of the campaign already.

"He had two comebacks but he is still not clean in the process and it is painful," he said. "We have to take a decision over what to do. He made an FA Cup game and did incredibly well but since then he has only been able to train for two or three days and then had to take a few days off, came back, took a few days off.

"He trained two or three days ago and felt good, but yesterday and today he could not train. At the end we have to take a decision on what we have to do because it has been a long time that has been unable to take a step forward.
