Man City can send title message to Arsenal in Champions League clash with Bayern Munich

Pep Guardiola was full of praise for his Manchester City side following their 3-1 win over Leicester on Saturday, although he did have one gripe.

"Of course we were worried [when Leicester scored], so we made one mistake and the second they had the chance with James Maddison and after with Kelechi Iheanacho. The game was tricky in the last 20 minutes.”

City have conceded the second-least amount of Premier League goals this season, having shipped only 28 behind Newcastle’s 24. The Blues have also scored the most goals up to this point, having netted 78 - in large part thanks to Erling Haaland’s 32-haul.

Title rivals Arsenal are not far behind with 74 of their own, possessing the manpower to hurt teams, as seen this season. They only managed to score once at the Emirates against City, though, in February’s 3-1 loss.

Bukayo Saka netted a penalty in that match but missed another in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with West Ham, an error that proved to be extremely costly. After conceding the second, Arsenal failed to recover and struggled in the final stages of the match.

It was a similar story against Liverpool in the 2-2 draw at Anfield - a different quality of team but likewise away from home. The Gunners may have been buoyed by Leicester’s late chance creations in Saturday’s game against City.

Former City star Kelechi Iheanacho got one back for the visitors on 75 minutes before he and James Maddison squandered great chances in the dying stages. Guardiola had made a number of substitutions with Bayern Munich in mind, enacting the full scope of five replacements in a rare ploy.
