If Manchester United end up appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their next permanent manager, they could be handed a boost in their pursuit of the former Tottenham man's main transfer target.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Pochettino is one of a number of contenders to take over at Old Trafford when Ralf Rangnick's temporary tenure comes to an end, with Erik ten Hag and Luis Enrique also thought to be on the shortlist.

Harry Kane has been tipped to follow Pochettino to Old Trafford if the appointment is made, having thrived under the Argentine when the pair were together in London.

The Spurs striker's summer links with Manchester City had prompted suggestions Pep Guardiola could return for the England captain, but City's pursuit of Erling Haaland could give their neighbours a free run at Kane.

According to Bild (via Sport Witness ), United have overtaken City as the front-runners for Kane thanks to City's pursuit of Haaland.

The Norway striker has been tipped to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, with United's interest in the 21-year-old having died down, and City are expected to do battle with some of Europe's other superclubs for a player who Bild claim is high on their list.

City have already added Argentina forward Julian Alvarez to their ranks this year, with the youngster returning to former club River Plate on loan, but this is not expected to stand in the way of them bringing in further attacking reinforcements.
