Man City can expect more transfer twists this summer amid major change

Manchester City might be signing a left-back. REPEAT: MANCHESTER CITY MIGHT BE SIGNING A LEFT-BACK.

The Blues are looking to close in on a deal for Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri in what would become the first specialist in the position since Angelino, who arrived in 2019 and was gone within six months. What has been a running joke for City fans for years is looking like it will become reality this summer.

That would be new, and it is tempting to attribute the sense of new direction in the transfer window to Hugo Viana. City's successor to Txiki Begiristain has come in, told some home truths, and is now getting down to the business of fixing the problems from last season.

Viana's influence can already be seen, yet it is important to remember that Begiristain has been here and done this kind of window before. When he said that people at the club weren't taking holidays, it wasn't certain whether it was an observation or an order.

There is certainly an element to City's early business that hasn't been seen in a long time now, if not chaos than a relentlessness to act. Pulling out of a deal to sign Florian Wirtz is in keeping with City's strategy, but while in previous summers that would have meant the club stuck with what they had instead it is swiftly onto the next target.
