Man City boss Pep Guardiola compares winning the Premier League to Champions League

Pep Guardiola will take satisfaction from the work that goes into Manchester City's defence of the Premier League if they can claim another title, but admits the emotions are higher with the Champions League.

Europe's holy grail is continuing to elude Guardiola and City and they suffered heartbreak in midweek, conceding twice in the final minute at the Bernabeu to throw away a commanding position against Real Madrid, before losing in extra-time.

Guardiola's desire to see City rule Europe can sometimes see their domestic achievements downplayed, but if they do pip Liverpool over the final weeks of the campaign it will be a fourth league title in five years.

The work that goes into succeeding in a 38-game season gives Guardiola immense satisfaction, but the Catalan believes the emotions of the Champions League cannot be beaten.

City were involved in another classic in their semi-final defeat to Real Madrid, losing 6-5 on aggregate, and they have often been on the wrong end of thrilling contests in Europe.

The Champions League is earning a reputation for unparalleled drama and Guardiola compared the emotion throughout the knockout rounds to constantly reliving Sergio Aguero's title-winning goal for City against Queens Park Rangers a decade ago.
