Man City and Barcelona fans hijack Ilkay Gundogan post amid uncertain future

Manchester City and Barcelona fans have hijacked Ilkay Gundogan's Twitter telling him to either stay or leave the Etihad Stadium in the summer.

Gundogan was one of Pep Guardiola's first signings with City and the midfielder has been a valued member of the squad ever since. At the end of the 2021/22 campaign, Fernandinho departed the Blues and the German international was voted as the club's new captain.

However, his future beyond 2023 is currently in doubt because he has yet to sign a contract extension with City. Reports have suggested that Barca see Gundogan as a direct replacement for Sergio Busquets and their supporters have taken to Twitter to let him know that he would be welcome in Catalonia.

In the comments section on Gundogan's tweet promoting OKX's 'metaverse', several supporters of Xavi's men sent their requests to City's captain.

Not wishing to allow the Barca supporters the opportunity to dictate the conversation, City fans responded with their appeals for Gundogan to stay in Manchester.

Before the Blues' 3-1 victory over Leicester City on Saturday, Guardiola was asked whether he could shed light on Gundogan and Bernardo Silva's future at the Etihad. He told Sky Sports: "I will praise all of them for the game against Bayern Munich, no exception in the XI that we had.
