Man City: 51-goal star now set for 'massive pay increase' at the Etihad

Manchester City star Phil Foden is set to secure a ‘massive pay increase’ as he nears the signing of a new contract at the Etihad Stadium, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Citizens may have spent more than £125million during the summer transfer window, but boss Pep Guardiola has now turned his attentions towards tying one of his key men down to a long-term deal.

Having grabbed the first hat-trick of his career as Manchester City consigned arch-rivals Manchester United to a 6-3 thumping last weekend, Foden appears to be on the cusp of agreeing fresh terms.

According to The Athletic, the reigning Premier League champions are hopeful that their academy product will put pen-to-paper as early as this week following lengthy negotiations.

The report suggests Foden, an 18-cap England international, has never been looking to leave Manchester City but talks were delayed due to a change in his management.

It comes after it was reported in August that the attacker had agreed a new long-term contract worth around £225,000-per-week, which would see him increase his salary by more than seven times.

Manchester City have been keen to hand Foden fresh terms as his current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2024.

O’Rourke understands that Foden is in line to pocket a hefty pay rise when he signs on the dotted line at Manchester City.

The journalist feels penning a new contract will give the Citizens a lift as the 22-year-old will continue to be a key member of Guardiola’s squad.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m sure he will be getting a massive pay increase from what he is on.

“Maybe not to the likes of Kevin De Bruyne or Erling Haaland right now, but there’s no doubt that Phil Foden is a top player and is going to be a top
