Man charged with attempted murder after woman stabbed at Hyde property

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing at a property in Hyde left a woman with 'life-changing injuries'.

Adrian Smith, 27, will appear in court on Monday (July 1), following an alleged incident at a property on Grosvenor Road on Friday (June 28). A woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following an alleged stabbing.

Police were initially called due to the 'concern for the welfare' of a woman at around 11pm. After police attended, a different woman was stabbed inside the property.

Mr Smith has been remanded in custody until his court appearance at Manchester Crown Court.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "Detectives have charged a man from Hyde with attempt murder. Adrian Smith (17/07/1996) of no fixed abode has been charged with attempt murder.

"He has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester Crown Court on Monday 1 July 2024.

"This charge is a result of an investigation from earlier this weekend when at around 11pm on Friday 28 June 2024, our officers were called to Grosvenor Road in Hyde due to the concern for the welfare of a woman.

"After they attended and were later taking witness accounts, another woman was stabbed inside the property. Following treatment, she is thankfully now in a stable condition but with injuries believed to be life changing.

"Following previous police contact, in-line with normal procedure, the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct."

Earlier today, the IOPC confirmed they have launched an investigation due to 'previous police contact'.
