Man arrested on suspicion of possessing counterfeit currency and class B drugs

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Cheetham Hill on suspicion of possessing counterfeit currency and class B drugs.

He has since been released on bail pending further investigation.

At around 11.30pm on Tuesday 1 February 2022, police were patrolling the Cheetham Hill area when they spotted a car which they believed to be suspicious.

Officers stopped the car and detained a man in order to conduct a stop and search.

The man attempted to escape from police, however was swiftly detained.

Following a search, he was found to have a large amount of counterfeit cash which was seized by officers.

A quantity of drugs were also recovered from the car and seized.

Following this seizure, a house search was conducted at an address on Carlyle Close in Cheetham Hill where further counterfeit cash was seized.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing counterfeit currency and further arrested on suspicion of possession of class B drugs. He has since been released on bail pending further investigation.

Chief Inspector Danny O'Neil, of GMP's City of Manchester division, said: "This is great proactive work from our officers who have managed to remove a significant amount of counterfeit cash from our streets.

"By seizing this cash, officers have been able to prevent it from being used to fund further criminality within the community."
