Man arrested on suspicion of murder following death of Lillia Valutyte

Police have made an arrest in connection with the killing of nine-year-old Lillia Valutyte. Lincolnshire Police said a person had been held on suspicion of murder.

Lillia was fatally stabbed in Boston, Lincolnshire, on Thursday (July 28). She was reportedly playing with her younger sister in the street outside the café where her mother worked when she was attacked.

Police said a 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and added in a statement: "Officers detained the man in the Boston Central Park area at around 2.45pm today (July 30). The arrest follows a combination of intelligence and information supplied by several members of the public. We’d like to thank everyone for their assistance as we continue our investigation. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident."

Police had arrested two men, but confirmed on Saturday morning they had been released with no further charge, LincolnshireLive reports.

Chief Superintendent Martyn Parker earlier said: "This is a particularly tragic case and I'd like to reassure the public that we have a huge amount of resources dedicated to the investigation.

"We continue to provide support to the family of Lilia, as they grieve following this unimaginable loss."
