Man arrested on suspicion of money laundering and fraud after morning raids

A man was arrested by police on Tuesday (April 18) following a series of morning raids across Bury. Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Money Laundering Team executed search warrants at three premises and a shop as part of an ongoing investigation.

One man, aged 34, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of money laundering, fraud and conspiracy to supply Class B drugs. He remains in police custody ahead of being questioned by officers.

The raids are part of an ongoing investigation by GMP’s Economic Crime Unit and linked to Operation Falcon, which aims to 'identify those involved in money laundering' and wider organised crime across Greater Manchester.

Following the arrest, Detective Sergeant Tim Flint from GMP’s Economic Crime Unit Money Laundering Team, said “Money laundering costs the UK economy billions of pounds and illicit finance often serves as the motivator for more serious and organised crime.

“We aim to seize criminal assets and cash, their finances can be reinvested back into local communities and given to those who need it most across Greater Manchester.”

Anyone with information about suspicious financial activity can report it to police through the online crime reporting form, or by calling 101. Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
