Man arrested for attempted murder after gun shots blasted at chippy

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a gun was blasted at a chippy in Oldham.

Police descended on Minton Street at around 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday, April 25) after receiving reports of a shooting. A window at the front of the Glodwick Chippy was smashed while another damaged windowpane was removed and left on display outside the premises.

In an update issued this afternoon (Friday), a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said that after investigations, it is believed this was caused by a firearm. Thankfully no-one was injured.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the 'frightening' incident. He remains in custody for questioning.

Officers also recovered a vehicle in connection with the shooting. The fish and chip shop remains closed today while investigations continue on the scene.

Yesterday, a cordon was put in place around the chippy as forensic officers scoured the area. Residents living in the area near Alexandra Park watched on as investigations were carried out on the scene.

Some were regular customers at the chippy which they described as a 'nice family run business'. Police thanked residents for their 'patience' and said patrols have been stepped up in the area.

DCI Lindsay Booth said: "This was a frightening incident and not something we will not tolerate on the streets of Greater Manchester. This could have resulted in serious injury or death but fortunately no-one was injured.
