Man appears in court accused of murder after death of 49-year-old woman

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after the death of a 49-year-old woman. Daniel Mitchell, 48, appeared at Manchester Crown Court accused of the murder of Alexis Karran.

Ms Karran died following an incident in Dukinfield, Tameside, which occurred in November last year. She died at Salford Royal Hospital.

Mr Mitchell appeared at Manchester Crown Court via video link for a preliminary hearing on Thursday afternoon (May 18). He was not asked to enter a plea to the charge.

A trial date was set for November. Judge Nicholas Dean KC adjourned the case until the next hearing in July.

Paying tribute to her in a statement released via GMP following her death, Alexis's family said: "Alexis is a very caring person; she shows kindness to all she meets - to all friends and strangers. She has always been the best role model for how to live life, that her brother constantly aspired to match.

"She is forever in our hearts; we will always be waiting to say hello.” Mr Mitchell, of Winchester Road, Dukinfield, has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
