Man admits causing death of woman by careless driving

A man has admitted causing the death of a woman by careless driving. Sabir Sharif, 21, denies causing death by dangerous driving and faces a trial next year. He as admitted causing death by driving without due care and attention.

The crash took place on Higher Cambridge Street, in Manchester city centre, on May 1 last year. Mr Sharif was driving a Volkswagen Polo, court records show.

During the short plea hearing at Manchester Crown Court today, Mr Sharif pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, but admitted causing death by driving without due care and attention.

“Having spoken with the officer in the case and the lawyer for the prosecution, this plea is not accepted by the Crown,” Brian Treadwell, prosecuting, told the court.

A trial date was set for September 9 next year, with the trial estimated to last for around four days.

Mr Sharif, of Roberts Avenue, Rusholme, was granted unconditional bail until the next hearing, and was also handed an interim driving ban.
