Man accused of murdering Zikel Bobmanuel could go on trial in the autumn

A man accused of murdering Zikel Bobmanuel in Openshaw could go on trial in the autumn. Emmanuel Onasanya, 32, was charged with murder after Mr Bobmanuel was shot dead on Saturday afternoon.

He appeared before magistrates court on Tuesday and then before a judge at Manchester Crown Court this morning. Mr Onasanya, of John Beeley Avenue in Openshaw, was not asked to enter a plea to the charge.

He will next appear in court for a plea hearing in June, and a trial date was set for October. Mr Onasanya was remanded in custody. In a statement released following the charge, a GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called to an incident on Welland Street, Openshaw at around 2pm on Saturday 25 March 2023.

"32-year-old Zikel Bobmanuel was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by first responders and at this stage, it is believed he died as a result of gunshot wounds.

"Emannuel Onasanya (DOB: 28/10/1990), of John Beeley Avenue in Manchester has been charged with murder and has been remanded into custody and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court this morning (28 March 2023). Zikel’s family are aware of this development in the investigation and continue to be supported by specialist officers."
