Man, 47, charged with drink driving after three-car smash on M6 near Trafford

A man has been charged with drink driving after a crash on the M6, close to the border of Trafford and Warrington.

Emergency services were scrambled to the Thelwall Viaduct, in Lymm, at around 2pm yesterday (Wednesday July 27) following the collision between a white Mercedes AMG, a red dropside lorry, and a black Nissan Qashqai, which also caused damage to the central reservation barrier.

Inderjit Sagar, 47, of Chorley, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with drink driving. He will appear at Warrington Magistrates' Court on August 15.

A woman, who was a passenger in one of the cars, suffered serious but 'non-life-threatening' injuries in the smash. There were also closures in place for around six hours, between junctions 20 and 21, while work to repair the barrier was carried out.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "A man has been charged following a collision on the M6. Inderjit Sagar, 47, from Chorley, was arrested and subsequently charged with drink driving.

"He has been bailed to appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on 15 August. The charges relate to a collision involving three vehicles on the M6 between junction 20 and 21 on Wednesday 27 July."
